Dealer got me a nice deal on a new stratos. ITs a 2007 leftover, 17'-6" with a 50hp Yamaha. The deal is great but the motor doesnt sound like enough and I have no experience with fiberglass boats, i have only fished out of aluminum boats. Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this boat and aluminum vs fiberglass?

What do you plan on doing with it?

skiing/wakeboarding with 5-6 people aboard, no its not going to be enough.

Bass/Walleye fishing with it on small and large lakes, 2 people onboard most of the time with the occasional 3rd person.

You should be fine, but I wouldnt expect lots of speed out of it. low 30's maybe...

I just googled the model #. My suspicion was that you are way underpowered. However what I found was that the hull is only max rated at 75 so you're probably in pretty good shape. Looks like a great fishing platform. Enjoy it!

Dealer just got a used 2007 vt19 aluminum boat in with a 90hp optimax. Whats the better boat to fish out of the stratos 176xt fiberglass with a 50hp or the triton?

Re: Stratos 176xt

the vt19 would certainly give you a lot more room, a lot more motor, and the toughness of an aluminum hull.
