hey gents ! i yesterday experienced something which i never saw before on my 5.0 mpi / bravo three : when shifting into forward the drive appears not to catch forward gear at idle rpm . when i advance the throttle a bit the drive catches at about 800-900 rpm with a kick . it stays in gear, it does not slip or anything else up to full throttle and speed. it happens after i changed the gearoil - i use sierra marine high performance gearoil which i also used on my previous sx drive without any issues.

its a 2010 engine /drive with less than 100 hours. it did not had any metal on the drain screw. i hope its just a linkage adjusting and not something more serious.

where to start to look ???

thanks very much !

Sounds like the same issue I had this year with my 2007 350 mag/Bravo III combo. After a few months reverse had the same issue also.. would not engage at idle.. A little throttle was needed. The shift cable was checked okay and adjusted properly. I had to replace the clutch/gear set assembly. Mine had 600 hours. $1800.00 later and it works like new. Good luck.

Sounds to me you need a cable adjustment. If you can get it within specs it should be good, if not may need a shift cable

Edit: I am assuming there is no additional noise and it is going in reverse without issue.

for those still interested : it was the cone clutch . not to believe with less than 100 hours but true. i,m now also about 1800 $ lighter and will claim this to mercruiser germany hoping to get some money back.
