I recently bought a 1996 bayliner 1952 cuddy, with a load rite trailer. On the ride home from purchasing the boat everything seemed fine. This past weekend while taking the boat out for her maiden voyage, I can hear a clicking when I'm driving down the road, it starts out slow but as I gain speed the clicking gets faster. Could this be a bearing issue?

sounds like it. Since it is a new boat to you, need check a repack all the bearings, before things go bad.

Re: Strange Noise

Is there a brake axle on the trailer?? If not, the only moving parts wouldbe bearings. Any chance there is some deal like a stick hung up in the wheel or some fluke thing?? Hopefully you've taken a preliminary look. Were the hubs warm or hot when this happened? Need a few more clues in order to help.

Saw that happen on a trailer that hub caps on it. The lugnuts were loose and wheel was flexing on the hub, causing a "clicking sound" as she rolled along.. A lugnut came off and was inside the hubcap rattling around, but owner didn't pay attaention because "it got quiet when speed was higher". Accident was waiting to happen on that one. Turned radio up and problem went away......

Re: Strange Noise

There is no brakes on the trailer, it's just a standard run of the mill single axle trailer. I did take a quick preliminary look and saw nothing out of the ordinary. Going to give everything a closer inspection this week.

When buying a used trailer, you should always inspect clean and repack the bearings. Alot easier at home than on the road.

+1 on possible bearing failer. Had a caulkins trailer do the same thing the clicking, only my dad was driving it and almost lost the tire coming back from spokane. Thankfully he got it safely to the shop. Olympic boat centers of all places. When i went to pick it up it ended up with a painted axle instead of galvanized. And olympic goes out of business 2 weeks later. Also to the tune of 500 bucks.
