I found a guy wanting to sell an '89 Evinrude 15hp. He says it ran great when he stashed it in his garage 10 years ago.

Worst case scenario, what do you think I'd have to do to get it into reliable running shape?

Thats exactly what I needed:)

Not knowing if there is anything truly wrong with it,if I could get it for a couple hundred bucks, would it be worth taking a chance on?

yep it is going to need an water pump rebuild for sure. if the carbs were properly drained they may be ok. but replace all the fuel lines, with the new alcohol resistant fuel lines, (ethanol).

You may want to consider getting a new fuel pump too, just in case. The rubber diaphram inside could have degraded in that amount of time.

yea, if you can get that motor for a couple hundred bucks, that would be a steal. In nice condition, a motor like that is worth close to a grand, so it would be worth the money to do a good tune up on it and make it dependable. I had a former customer come by my place and give me a 1984 Johnson 15. The pistons ar scored, from overheating, but it still runs good. I may just replace the pistons and rings in it and still come out ahead with it.;)
