Hi all - just wanted to share. A neighbour was cleaning out his shed and looking to unload this engine that has been in there 30 years. Serial number has it as a '68.

Obviously not mint but it's not stuck or obviously damaged so I'm hoping a hundred bones was not too much to part with for it and a tank. Looks like someone might have had the head off at some point considering the lack of paint on those gasket edges. There's some degreasing and the usual consumables to attend to (plus find a slow speed carb adjustment knob) then I think it might make a nice little power plant for our 14 foot tinnie...or even better, the ten foot hydro my son and I are building. 😈

If anyone has any advice specific to refitting or running one of these 'rudes I'm all ears. I've always loved the styling of these Sixties era Fastwins and was stoked to find one so close to home. My parents had the 33hp (SkiTwin??) of the same year when
I was a wee bit o flotsam so great to find its little brother.

Stay tuned...More to come...😎

Nice find I'd say. And the cost isn't bad either IMO. Shouldn't take much to get that running. Take a compression reading to see what you've got. And do post pictures. JMHO

Those are great reliable motors, simple to work on and parts are cheap. If it were mine, I'd probably order points, condensers, coils, carb kit, fuel pump rebuild kit and an impeller. Should be under $100 for everything if you shop around, and it will be ready for another 50 years of service. That one doesn't look to have much use. I had one on a small 14' Alumacraft. It was almost scary fast with just me in the boat.

With the cowl off the engine looks quite similar to my '54 15HP 'rude and the LU looks very similar. Since you're water intake is exactly like mine I suggest using a plastic trash can to supply cooling water with the motor hanging on a boat.

Thanks guys - will tackle those items. Mla - that power head and gear case does look like they are very close to older engines, my 56 ten hp Johnson included. Looks like OMC spent most of the sixties just designing new cowls. 😜

Ive got a '55 15hp gear case bolted up to a 1966 18hp right now. The 66 had a gear case that was trashed and then FR got me going in the right direction on the project.
