Hi Homerr

A few suggestions;

When the trailer is dry and clean, spray a liberal coating of WD40 or CRC Marine over any rusty, rust-prone or critical areas. That stuff will keep water and moisture off, but you do need to respray periodically for this to be effective. I also spray any areas where the galvanising (or paint) is scratched, where bare metal may be exposed.

Immediately after use in salt water, spray heavily with fresh water - the more the better to get as much of the salt water residue off your trailer. Pay particular attention to around the wheels, wheel hubs, axle, springs, suspension etc.

A good point I got from this board is - never back into the sea immediately after a long trip - when the wheel bearings are very hot. This can cause excessive corrosion in the wheel bearings.

If you can avoid your wheel bearings going under water then that's helpful - but this is not always possible depending on how much water depth your boat needs to launch.

That's all I can think of for now...

to stop rust that already exist you can put a rust converter on the rusted area which turns the rust to a black hard surface which is also considered a primer so you can paint over it. This stops the rust in its tracks and the converter stops it from spreading

I think Hammerite is the best paint to use.. It is a rust converter and paint, and it is tough! You can order it from Hamilton Marine, or most True Value hardware stores have it. It is similar to POR15, I haven't used POR myself but some say it is tougher than POR. Cheaper than POR too.

Mark

Once the rust has been sanded or cleaned and primed - think about spraying the metal frame with something like rhino liner or similar. You won't have to worry about scratches or rust just like pick up truck beds linned with the same product.
