Hi All,
I've been lurking the forums that last few weeks since me and the Finace decided it was time to buy a boat. We found one and we just brought it home yesterday. It's a 2000 Stingray 200LS. It's a nice boat, needs some love but a "nice-to-me" boat. (pictures to come soon)

To make a long story short, the cockpit and bow covers are pretty torn up and we've had some pretty heafty thunderstorms over the last few afternoons. Upon pulling up the under-floor storage cover yesterday I found standing water. After bailing it out I had about 4 gallons and then I wet-vac'd it dry and stuck the end of the hose over the drain hole. In doing that I think I got about another 4 gallons or so.

I think it's safe to say that the drain is plugged. :) My question is where does the drain lead to? I can only get my finger down in it and it seems to branch to the left and right but I'm not sure where it leads to. Is it supposed to drain back to the bilge under the engine? I haven't had the help to get the engine cover out of the boat. Once I do that I'll be able to look under the engine to see but I thought someone here might be able to give me a good place to start looking.

Once I do find the drain is it safe to use a wire to try to clean it or should I use an airhose and blow it out or something else?

Thanks for any input you can give.

Cheers,
Scott

Re: Stingray 200LS holding water

Welcome to iboats.

Standing water is no good at all. Stray leaves from trees plug the holes fast!!

The wet/dry shop vac may be the best tool you have to clean under the motor, the bilge and everything else. I would suggest weedeater line to unplug passages and also the shop vac.

The boat should be stored with the bow up as high as possible, the outdrive lifted so it is not hitting the ground and the plug removed.

Thanks for the reply Bob.
The bilge was dry. The only water was in the under-floor storage area. I'll get under there and try the weedeater line. Thanks a bunch for the tip.

Get the Bow up higher and the water should not be in there. Bring a hose into the boat and run some water through the drain holes while pushing with a string....... some people resort to a coat hanger wire if really jammed up.

Well, I've tried a few things so far and this is what I've come up with...

First I tried the weedeater line, then I tried a wire/coat hanger, then the water hose, air hose and then a small drain snake. It seems as though the pvc drain pipe is broke. I would be able to tell better if I knew for sure that the drain pipe ran directly in a straight line from the storage area to the bilge.

When using any of the tools to fish through the pipe it seems to stop somewhere below the fuel tank. about 12" from where the pipe ends in the bilge. If I run water into the drain in the storage area it seems to stay under the storage area and not drain. If I blow air into the drain we get some spay coming up on the top of the back side of the fuel tank. This tells me that the line might/propably is broken. :(

I'm not sure what I'm going to do at this point. I really want to understand how it is built before I start ripping floor up to investigate.

Thanks,
Scott
