Sounds to me like your carbs are fouled.Very common problem with two stroke outboards that have set out of use for a spell. They will need to be dismantled and bowl pickup tubes as well as every fixed orifice and passage needs to be cleared of any gummy restrictions.Once you have insured that the carbs are clean and clear ,a link and synch procedure would be advisable.

hi again! ok i have taken the carbs off the 75hp and looks like the guy that had the boat before me has had a good go at them, they are very clean inside, having said that i have cleaned them through again for peice of mind, does any one know about the chokes on this outboard seems to work off a thermostat, they do not come on when cold i have to engage the chokes manualy, could this be the reoson i am getting these starting/running problems?i know the boat will race around the lake at full throttle all day but once i slow down and take it out of gear thats when i get the problems,do the choke come on slightly when the engine starts to cool?

Hey Logger....

Fisrt, could you post the year or model number of yer shaker please? Hard sometimes to give advice with out knowing the year.

Some early 70's engines had t-stat controled chokes. (I believe early 70's) When you start the engine, do push the key in to choke? With the engine at rest, turn the key to on and engage the choke switch. Do the choke plates close and open with out sticking?

Check the choke assemble links are free to move with no binding. Check the choke plates also are free to move.

If you do not have a manual, do get one. Your problem could be as simple as a sync and link adjustment. This adjustment get your engine timing and throttle plate opening in sync.

Keep us posted on your progress...thanks.
