Hey guys, im still doing my homework and you all are a great help, i have been shopping for upgrades for my 19' Bayliner, from a AQ131A/275 od to a ???/. I have found a AQ170A/270 od. Do any of you know the HP of this engine and would it be a good swap ?? I have also found a 4.3 crate motor and a 290 od. Not sure if they will bolt together and what adaptors and plates i will need, while the 170/270 set up is complete.
Any thoughts >????
As always, Thanks much

I'm not Don but I'll offer my 2cents anyway.

The 170/270 was a good strong package but it's over 30 years old now, it probably has issues.

Me thinks it might be a case of out of the frypan and into the fire.

From memory - the 131 was 120HP and the 170 was 170HP rated at the flywheel which means it will be about 155/160 at the prop.

Re: Still looking to upgrade my Volvo/Penta

To add to Dunaruna's comments, the 170 is also a 6 cylinder and is a lot longer than your 131. It's also an extra 200 lbs. How will that fit in your boat?
The other thing you should look at is the motor mounts. I don't think your 131 has any front mounts or pads on the stringers or stringers for the mounts for the 6 cylinder. So take that into consideration.

Thanks Don and all, your right, no 6 cyl mounts in the tub, length is ok with lots of room fore and aft. I don't think the extra wt is a problem for the hull but may negate the gain in HP? So much to consider. Is it tough to add the needed mounts or is this getting crazy ??

Nice to have you pros on board before chunking out the cash. Many thanks again... DBR
