!958 35 horse sea horse will crank runs rough it is spittin and cuttin out, has good spark, jumps a 1/4 inch gap, i have rebuilt carb. new plugs, blows my mind. Is it possible that it is still a carb probleme or is it possible it needs new coil(if so does it take 2) I cranked it for a minute then screwed needle valves out of carb and gas poured out them is that normal? I also looked at the plugs the bottom plug was wet but the top one looked and felt bone dry? What should i do now, i had ordered coil and tune up kit should i send that back or could one of those still be the probleme. I am detemined to get this old beauty running any help will be greatly appreciated.

Remove the flywheel and inspect the coils, my bet, unless they have been changed, they are shot. Look to see first if they are cracked, or have what look like burn marks. If they are kind of made of clear pinky plastic, or brown plastic. Blue coloured or green are newer types. If they are newer, then maybe your problem is fuel related. Also check the points while you are there too. Make sure the coils are mounted correctly and flush with the edge of the boss's.

Re: still ain't running right

removed fly wheel one coil is brown the other one is purple, i can tell by looking that the points are not set right one is closed and the other looks to be gaped about .030 to .040. How can i tell which coil is bad if either is, would it more than likely be the brown one. Don't know how to test them. I had already orded tune up kit and one coil fro iboats i guess i'll put that in since i've already got the fly wheel pulled. What is you all's advise?

Your coils need to be replaced with new ones. That is the main issue, I believe. The translucent pinkish color ones are really old. New ones typically are a light green.
Also, you can't tell how the points are gapped by just looking at them as they are. You need to rotate the flywheel until the points are at the top of the cam. Only then can you check the gap. Do this individually for each set of points.
Check in this forum for the correct procedure to gap the points.
