Stiff fast Idle lever

The lever on the Mercury 2008 remote control that give a fast idle does not completely rise and dont engage higher RPM.
I thook apart the bottom cover and notice the electric wire coming over the throtte cable (see photo). Without the cover the fast idle lever work ok.

Reinstalling the bottom cover, the throtte cable seem sqeeze by the electric wire and resist the movement of the lever.

Is this a bad cable installation? The electric wire could go under?

Thank for advice

With what you said, I would look for a way to re-route that wire.

Thank Commander.

I am not a mecanic but I am interested.
My youtube research says that the electric wire shown is part of the trim-tilt harness on the main control lever.

Those 3 small wires are connected to the main harness under the upper cover plate with 3 bullets conector. Removing the upper cover plate risk new surprise for me so ... !#?

It is a new ''used boat'', I will test the boat on water before going further. By greasing the wire and the cable, operation seams less stiff but not perfect.

More later

I'm not so sure the wire harness is the issue. It's routed over the fixed metal sheath, not the moving cable end.

Is the throttle movement restricted with the cover on? Both the throttle and warmup lever move the same cable.

If that sheath is jammed to one side when tightening the screws, that could easily cause the cable to bind a little. In any case, rerouting the cable wouldn't hurt a thing. A good first try in fixing the issue. My opinion, FWIW. -Al

Stiff fast-idle lever on Merc 2008 remote control

NB: My previous post was on the wrong forum. So I will resume.

My new ''used'' 2008 Princecraft-Mercury boat has an issue with the fast-idle lever not engaging RPM and not travelling up smoodly to the maximum position.

After removing the back buttom plate of the remote control box (see photo) I notice a electric wire (tilt-harness) crossing over the throttel cable. Without the buttom plate the lever work normaly, moving back and fourt but also little moving up and down.

After replacing the plate, the lever become stiff again. I beleive the electric wire squeeze the cable and obstruct the movement.of the throttle cable.

A panellist named ''Commander'' suggest rerouting the electric wire. Good idea but I will have to go under the top plate and disconnect bullet connector (maybe new issue?@1)

Is that a bad control cable instalation or abad electric wire routing?

NB After greasing the electric wire the fast-idle lever seems to be moving more easely but not perfect.

Anyone with the same issue?
Thank for the advice.

All you had to do was ask to move the thread.

Where do plan on moving the cable to? Not much room.

I would pull the cable tube or work the tube to make some slack. Then work the tube over the black cable to the left and pull or work the tube to remove the slack. You don't have much other choice short of tearing the control apart and even rerouting any other way there may be no room.

You still haven't answered if the throttle lever binds like the warmup lever when the cover is on.

I was thinking that somebody likely replaced the tilt/trim switch and routed the new cable improperly. You would have to have it in your hands to tell, but it's possible there might be more room if that wire harness were routed BETWEEN the throttle and shift cables?

Any I’ve had is always stiff after an inch or so of travel. What engine is it ? I know that even when my 2016 lever is fully up it won’t rev to full rpm. It limits its self below even half of full revs in neutral.

The motor/engine is a Mercury 2008, 60hp EFI 4 stroke + Mercury remote control box.

The remote control and the cables seems ? original, factory installation. So other boaters with the same kit should have the same issue.

NB With the back lower plate off, the fast-idle lever move normaly. By greasing generously the electric wire to remove friction I have improve but not solve the issue.

Still waiting for a test on the lake and feel the throtte response before going any further in this problem.

Thank for your contribution
