Spent the afternoon yesterday swapping attachements on the tractor and getting ready for winter / snow removal and got to looking at the rear tires and decided I really needed to replace them. They are truf tires and about 8 years old and are at the end of their usefull life. Got on the horn this moring to the local farm tire shop, gave them the info on size and I about fell over when I got the quote on a pair of decent 6 ply tires. (Both Titan and Firestone)

GASP, I wasn't planning on a second mortgage!!! Ok, maybe not that bad but SHEESH! Time to do some internet shopping I think but also suspect the shipping costs will be a killer.

I know what you mean about the Titans tires. I have them on my New Holland. Titan and Goodyear just had a big increase in prices just a few months ago

Going through the farm equipment and garden store may not be your best bet.
Major tire centers that deal with all brands of tires have always been my best bet as they buy direct from the MFG and not a middle man.
As well do you have a buddy with an account with one of the bigger shops??, since we go through a fair amount of rubber each year and we are all over the place we have an national account with our supplier, this gives us up to a 30% discount on most tires.

(On our tractor we run chains all year round, not hard on the grass + gives excellent traction and less tire wear.)

Re: Sticker Shock

Every tire price has shot way up :(

My 3/4 T had the heavy tires and I do not look forward to replacing them......... even my "summer" radials on my 4runner are about $175 each .....ouch.

Maybe we are in the wrong business.....

Last time I bought a set of ag tires for my Cub was in the 80's. The 2 cost me 75. I thought that was high until I priced new ones to replace my old ones that are worn way down. Now each tire is 60. These are small tires thats on 10" rims. But however, the old ones have lasted about 25 years.

Ayuh,.... Buy a set of tire Chains for it,...
So long as the carcasses will hold air, the chains'll keep ya movin'...

I agree, the price of tires has gone Insane,...
I see 2 reasons,....
Tires are made of Oil, 'n the government is doin' All they can to devalue the dollar...

Tires have gotten stupid...... when i bought my Zo6 a pair of rears cost me 700.00 mounted out the door at discount tire. They dont last long if you drive aggressively. Now they are over 1,000.00 out the door. It sits in the garage most of the time these days. Between tires and super unleaded it kills me.

I thought my wife's Acadia needed new skins till I got the price ... nah, honey, they are good for another year or two! No, it is normal for those cords to show ... they dig into the snow better in the winter time!
