I have recently stepped up from an older 9.9hp to a new 20hp merc. I am considering adding stick steering and remote throttle controls. does anyone know a place on the web, that may sell these parts reasonable? Also, what all would this involve as far as assembly and attaching the controls to my motor now?? It is a new 20hp merc. w/electric start..currently (obviously) tiller controlled. Thanks,

Waco

Re: stick steering

I recently bought a stick steering system on Ebay. When I looked around, I didn't come up with anything. I've heard that watermen here in Maryland are kind of fond of the system, but can't prove that by me.

I'm doing a retrofit, hooking up a trolling motor. Mine is on an inboard, so I don't have the option of connecting steering to an I/O or outboard. I like the idea of the stick because it should take up less room (maybe). I also considered hooking up a dual steering unit to my existing wheel, and think that would work too. It's essentially a double helm control to run two cables. I figure differing length of cables is not an issue because travel will be the same. There would be an advantage to that system -- rudder and trolling motor would turn in tandem.

With a new motor, I guess I would look for controls for that particular model through the dealer (at least start there to see what is required) -- same with steering. If your main motor is an I/O or an outboard, it's probably easier to piggyback the steering from the main motor.
