Stick Steering: Love it and Hate it

I have a 1971 Fisher Marine with a 1972 Evinrude, which is steered by a 1972 Morse stick steering system. It is not stuck, but is hard to move. Finding parts is impossible, unless I get a new system. The numbers stamped into the cable are worn off. I can make out "11 FT", but nothing else. Best I can find is by Ezy-Glide. Do I really want to spend $400 on a boat that's worth $600? The tiller handle broke off some time ago, but the motor runs like a sewing machine. Can I lubricate the old cable? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have had dealings with Teleflex over and above just ordering a cable from a catalog. They are very knowledgeable, friendly, understanding, and helpful. Give them a try, you may be pleasantly surprised......www

Given the fact that Ezy-Glide is a small company and probably does not manufacture its own steering cables, I wouldn't be surprised if the cables that they sell, are made by Morse.

Morse Controls sold out to Teleflex. So, it's all Teleflex now. What there is left of it (Morse).
