My boat is a 1986 140 mercruiser I/O with what I have been told is an early Alpha outdrive. Problem is, when running with muffs on,water is dumping from above the exhaust bellows, so I assume the hose that sends the water to the engine is cracked,(looks badly checked). Do I have to pull the outdrive and bell housing to replace this? I removed the exhaust bellows and can get the hose off the lower end, but it disappears somewhere up in the top of the bell housing.I also removed the hose/cover/bushing from the copper pipe behind the engine, that goes through the wall to the housing thinking hose might pull down from the bottom.....nope.......am lost now.<br />Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.

What you are refering to, is a 50 cent hose that will make you lose your religion. In order to do it correctly, you need to remove the drive, the bellhousing and all the bellows. Replace the hose and reinstall everything. It has been done without removing the above items, but it ain't easy. Its kinda like tuning up a car by going thru the tailpipe.
