stern drive-transom issue

Hello. Have an 87 Searay with a 3.0 litre Alpha One drive...Noticed (after washing it today) at the top of stern drive where it connects to transom there ia a quarter inch gap...When I flexed the drive up it seemed to close the gap...I looked inside the transom and it appeared OK...Not perfect...(it is an old boat)...Is there any bolts I can tighten to close the gap or can I just fill gap with caulk? Is this gap normal? I noticed (being pulled behind boat) that water(exhaust?) was coming out of it??? ....Thanks, Pete42

No, the Gap isn't Normal.........
I'm Guessing that you must have some Serious Transom Rot...........
There are 6 studs,+ nuts holding it together.....
The nuts will be found on the Inner Transom Plate...... 3 on each side......
