stern drive removal of twin pre alpha's ???

hi guys , these are mated with a pair of merc 140's. both drives from 70's, starboard drive # b3516052; port drive no numbers that i can find as of yet.?are these counter rotation and if so which do i remove in forward gear and which in reverse gear. read a couple of forum threads and got confused . one said some times both run in same direction . need your help.

Nope,.... Look at the props,... They're both righthanded drives,.. Use forward gear...

took out port side no problem . starboard side will not seperate even using up and down jerks. think shift linkage inside drive is froze because i broke my shift cable trying . is ther another route i can take for removal

Look up under the unit where the "shoe" mates with the shaft. They need to be straight ahead - fore and aft - when in forward gear. You can cut the cable and manually turn the shaft in order to pull the drive. OR you can remove the lower unit which will allow the shaft to drop out of the shoe, then remove the upper.

well i resorted to dropping the foot. still jammed can't even get it to budge put screw drivers inbetween drive and housing nothing . it makes me keep looking to see if i got all six nuts off any suggestions

When all is said and done, let me know how it goes. I think I want to re-build my pre-alpha outdrive this winter, or maybe just replace with a good newer outdrive that is also 1.5 to 1...

You might do a search for stuck outdrives.... some have said you can put the trim rams back on and try using them to push the unit off. Others have suggested lifting and dropping it onto a board. How hard it is to get off depends upon where it is stuck. Sometimes you may end upo having to cut the driveshaft inside the boat where it enters the coupler if it is stuck there. But try the other methods first.

got it out finally. it was all carroded around the drive shaft housing , but with the board trick it eased out little by little . thanks for the input guys
