noticing that a lot of i/o boats frequently lack the out-drives , why, supposing that they must have fallen off or were stolen, I find really only one type of lock, the sleeve lug nut type common to keeping mag on a car.
My recollections is that those type of lock don't deter professional thieves at all, they either have the key, or a set of easy offs. How about the prop ,,do people steal those two , I'm worried about when I'm staying overnight somewhere away from home, or even a lunch stop. suggestions please.

Re: Stern drive locks?

The mag-wheel type stern drive locks will stop the "target of opportunity" thieves. Nothing's going to stop someone who really wants it and has a portable oxy-acetylene cutting torch and is hidden from sight. They also make propellor locks like the mag-wheel locks. Probably not a bad idea to pull the prop off if you're in a hotel lot, and park in a highly visible spot.

Moving away from northwest NJ would be a good place to start.

If someone can steal your drive while you are stopped for lunch, there was nothing that was gonna stop them!

But sure those stern drive and prop locks will cause the less than average thief to move along to someone else's boat.

P.S. another reason you see boats without their drives is they might be broken, or like mine, in their locked garage for the winter.
