Re: Stern drive engineerings se106 alpha one replacement

will the 147 gears be the same?
i can't see how they could be. one is 1.47:1, the other is 1.5:1. unless the ratio change occurs somewhere other than in the upper drive and driven gears.
why would they not offer the 150 gear ratio?
no idea. but i think they are close enough that the difference will be irrelevant..

I did the math and yes they are close enough. I contacted them as I had the same question. Yes the 1.47 is the correct one. You can always ask them. they are a good group and know there stuff. The drive runs great. and a no fault 3 yr warranty is awsome.

Just wondering here....If hypothetically my lower end of my mercruiser alpha one gen 2 got damaged, could I replace only the lower end with the SEI replacement? Will the lower SEI mate with the upper mercruiser?

While you *should* start your own thread for this, the answer is "yes". They sell just lower units and they bolt right on to the mercruiser uppers.

hal, at some point several years back, Mercruiser quit using a 1.5 ratio Alpha and it became a 1.47. So one year a boat that had a 1.5, the same identical boat the next year got a 1.47. No issue at all. Bolt it up and you'll even be able to use your same prop. Good luck.
