I just got a new drift boat that does not have a motor and I am going to put in a simple stereo system. I have a few questions. The system that I am looking at is a fusion mp3/amfm stereo. Thes do not need as deep of an area to install. I am going to have two 5.5in speakers. What would be the best way to power this set up. I was thinking a large 12volt marine battery that I could charge at night. How long would a charge last? Is there a better option? Will I need to get a seperate amp? Are there any suggestions or thoughts? Any help would be great.

I have thought about that but there are not any quality waterproof portables.

Are we talking drift boat as in Hyde, Klacka, etc.? If so that's heresy and I love it! I can hear the guides and crusty old fly anglers now. As to your question, a cheap 12V deep cycle marine battery will easily meet your power needs. Make sure it's a straight deep cycle though, not a dual purpose or cranking battery. Also, there are small batteries available that would be better suited to your application. Just hook it up to a charger the night before a trip and top it off every couple of weeks and you'll be ship shape. Tight lines.
