Replacing an old stereo with a newer computerized type that has presets and settings. What's the best method (cheapest and easiest) of keeping the settings in the stereo? Should I install an additional small battery with the unit on the yellow wire?

Dave,
Simply wire the yellow wire (called stereo memory) to the battery, fused with a 5A in-line fuse. The amp draw when the stereo is off in minimal, probably measured in milliamps...

That's true, but it's still an amp draw. You asked for the cheapest solution. Assuming you already own an automatic charger the cheapest solution would be to hook it up at regular intervals to keep the battery topped off. However, IMHO the best solution would be to install an on board charger. You can get a good one for around a hundred bucks and it will make your life much easier. You don't give us a whole lot to work with regarding the kind of setup you have, so the info we're giving you must be considered within that context. Good luck!

Hey Seabob, hope this won't be construed as threadjacking, but isn't Weekie Watchie where they filmed The Incredible Mr. Limpet?

Incoop,
Think about your vehicle. You have the same "constant hot" for the stereo memory in your truck, as well as a number of other settings that have to be powered all the time. Go on a 2 week business trip with the truck at the airport parking garage, you climb when you get back and she starts right up...

Same thing...

Fair enough. Now what about Mr. Limpet?

Incoop,
Just did some searching, didn't see any reference to the filming locale, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Go by the park everyday, seems to be doing alright, but in the winter, and we had a cold one this past winter, you might see 3 cars in the whole parking lot!

Now it's got stores and plazas across the street and almost all around it. Back then, it was in the middle of BFE! Corner of SR 50 and US 19...

My little girl and I were watching it last night on TCM and I thought I heard them say that's where they filmed it. I'll stop mucking up the thread now. Have a good one.:)

Just found it. Yep, it was filmed at Weeki Wachee. There is a Best Western right across 19 from the park, I'm sure that's where everybody stayed, as back in'64, from talking to people around here and Brooksville, there wasn't ANYTHING around there for miles!

Not any more!

Hey,
When I first moved to FL, I lived in Orlando, '81-'94. My first job was at Sea World while I was going to UCF. Ran a small shop directly across the lake from the ski show stadium. Watched them build the huge tank that they filmed Jaws II in, now the current Whale and Dolphin Stadium.

I spent many an hour (during the slow times of the day) watching those guys and girls learn how to barefoot backwards. Not for the feint of heart!
