Steiger or parker pilot house - opinions wanted

I've been looking and think I'd like either a Steger or Parker pilothouse in 20-22'.
Plan is to be in Delaware bay, close to shore, for fishing.
Don't like idea of replacing plastic/canvas.
Anyone have either and can give advice?
Other contenders?
Inboard vs outboard arguments?
Thanks.

Never having owned either....... I have heard good things about the Steiger Craft boats and not heard any complaints on either boat.

I/O versus Outboard is really a user's choice. You will get a 50-50 response......... The I/O can be better on fuel...... what it boils down to is what are you more comfortable with for DIY maintenance and repairs. There could be a list of things to avoid (brands/models)with both I/O and outboard. OMG the arguments could go on for years!!

Thanks.
My thoughts were that inboard is like a car motor and I could do maintenance, where outboard is so compact that my wurst fingers would prevent anything except maybe changing plugs.
Anyone with experience with Defiance? They seem like Steiger...

I own a 1990 Chesapeake 23. She's a tried and tested veteran. I'm scratch wiring it so I haven't taken it out yet. I have a perfect I/O on another boat(which I like) but I wanted an outboard for several reasons...
1) Repowering is a snap. It's a self contained unit on the back, not IN the boat.
2) Worse case I pull the outboard send it for repair and use the kicker to keep playing
3) Self draining/winterizing
4) All the big boys have outboards
5) I/O's are high maintenance. especially in salt water

Thanks JC
There used to be an ad for a car (Packard?) that said, "Ask a man who owns one", and that makes sense to me.
I'd love to hear how you like the Chesapeake when you take her out.
How is the hull? Was it used in lake Erie?
Yes, you can replace an outboard easily, but not cheaply...

I wanted a pilot house so bad but didn't want to pay $20-99K. This boat was like buying a retired Sherman tank. Sure it's used, abused, and put away wet, but it's still a tank! :)

It was used off the south end of Florida, then the gulf of Mexico, then used commercially to retrieve live ordinance under government contract. It's probably never spent a day indoors in it's life until now. Was repowered in 2000, will probably need repowered again in a few years. It looks like some of the forward bulkhead tabbing has delaminated after years of ocean use(easily repairable) but the hull seems bullet proof.

I installed a B60 transducer in it this week and the hull is solid fiberglass about an inch thick. They started using fiberglass stringers in 1990 too, but the decks on the earlier models have a rep for getting soft quick, as is mine. Even so, I drilled a virgin compartment for the transducer and the foam was in really great shape.

The boat has been repainted which makes repairs easier for me since I can epoxy and paint. Are you looking to buy new? I think that Steiger started a lifetime hull warranty in 1996 with their fiberglass only grid system? You can call Alan Steiger over the phone and talk to him personally which is pretty darn cool in my opinion.

Below is a pic of my boat when it was used commercially a few of years ago...

NO way can I afford new....:blue:
Thanks for the info., and giving me reassurance.
I'm not after speed, want comfort and safety, and a good fishing platform.
Your pic is just how I'd want mine, I'm open to outboard or inboard power - depends what I can afford.
My wife's maiden name is Steiger, but unfortunately, no relation....

I don't think you can go wrong with either brand if you do the usual due diligence regarding condition.

If I ever give up the Grady, it will be for a Contender or a Parker.

Saltwater is no place for an I/O. You couldn't pay me to own one

I never liked the way parkers ride.I think Steiger has a much better reputation overall and the Steiger Miami is a much sharper looking boat than the Parker.

As for Inboard or outboard, Outboards are said to me more reliable/efficient, but harder to work on yourself and much more expensive to do so

I have pics of a Steiger Miami bookmarked and my keyboard has drool on it...
Strange, I heard inboards were more efficient. Clearly, an outboard is easier to replace.

Appreciate the comments - it'll probably come down to what's available and what I can afford.

Anyone else been on/own a Steiger, Parker, or Defiant?
I welcome opinions on them and in vs outboards.
