I have searched the posts and notice some with a possible similar problem, however I dont think i have found the answer. I am trying to replace my steering assembly and can not remove the steering wheel. There was one bolt wich was removed and it appears that the steering wheel should screw right off. There is a piece in the center with a round groove all the way around the steering post with a small notch. Is this another bolt? and if so how do i get it off?
Thanks......

I assume you took off the nut(?) that holds the wheel onto a keyed shaft.

That being the case, It might be done with a standard gear type puller grabbing the underside external edge.

If badly corroded it may require more drastic efforts.

Simple way is to back the nut off but don't remove it. With one person pulling back on the wheel with some force, have someone else strike the nut with a big hammer. Usually pops right off. Be sure you trust the one with the big hammer. Don't give the wife the hammer, then decide to confess about your past.

Capt Ken, If you are buying lunch, I can stop by about 1200.

Also watch how you use the hammer. When I put my tach and water pressure gauge in I beat the hell out of the nut. I can be easily ruined and I had to get another tach because the needle fell off the old one because of my wild hammer swinging.

Dutch

Dang Clanton, didn't see the post till it was too late. Anytime.... There's a cheap hamburger place down the street and they'll let anyone in. Gotta wear shoes tho.
