I am now replacing the rotted dash on my 1973 supersport 18' Aluminum Starcraft. How do I pull the steering wheel? A puller will not work. Do I need a 3 prong grabber? I am worried about breaking the plastic steering wheel.

Thanks

Re: Steering wheel removal help

Flash it is easiest with 2 people but if by yourself it can be done . run the retaining nut back down till its right at the top of the shaft then and heres the tricky part for one person knock the snott out of the nut while pulling on the wheel at the same time . Try to hit the nut square while doing it . this trick is easier in a car where you can get your knees up behind the wheel to apply pressure while SHMACKING the nut.

Re: Steering wheel removal help

That reminds me of a funny story,

In high school a guy thought he would just rip the wheel off with his hands, but he couldnt. so he got a friend to tap on the shaft while he pulled on the wheel, he didnt have the nut on and when it came off it cracked the guy pulling on it right in the face, It broke his nose..
Well i thought it was funny...:D

The moral to the story is keep the nut on so you dont get hit in the face..
