steering wheel...Help I cant get it off

I have a 1965 Starcraft belle isle.. Iam currently restoring the boat but I cant get the dang steering wheel off... anybody out there know how to get it... Ive tried everything... just dont want to damaged or break the cover,everything is in good shape........please help

Have you tried spaying it down with lube, like wd-40? They do have steering wheel puller tools also. Sound like you might be able to spay it down with wd-40 or liquid wrench or another good lube, keep it soaked and do this for a period of hours or even days.

This is if the wheel is actually only held with a key.

One way, without a puller, is leave the nut on but loose, have a helper put pulling tension on the wheel. Give the nut a good rap with a hammer. May take several tries.

loosen the nut, to the end of the bolt. put your knees behind the wheel and apply pressure, now smack heck out of the nut. it is a compression fit.
