I was rewiring my 1977 Renkin today and noticed that the clamp that holds the steering cable to the rectangular steel tube under the dash is broken. When I turn the steering wheel the whole cable moves not just the inside portion. Are these clamps replaceable? I have no idea where to look or what they are called. Hope someone can help me out, this is a project boat and I have not hooked up the other end of it to the motor yet. Hope someone can help me out here.
Thanks in advance
Tony

Re: Steering Question

Hard to say without knowing the make of steering. A new helm with new cable is not overly expensive. If your helm rack is in that condition how far behind is your cable?

Re: Steering Question

You really want to look into a new one, steering isn't something you want to make work, i haven't seen it and it may be repairable but I woud really consider replacing it, the iboats store has the best prices you will find.

Can you move the cable by hand?
