I have a 2002 Lund (16.5foot) with a 75HP 2-stroke mercury. When I let go of the sterring wheel at about 2,500 RPMs or above the boat just wants to go right (all the way right immediatly). Is this Safe-T steering or something? It has been like this since new. I was just wondering. I assume it is normal? So what kind of steering is this?
Thanks

Re: Steering Question

That's what that little fin thing in back of and above the prop is supposed to help with. But with power trim, it's effectiveness varies immensely with the trim angle. You can adjust it until you're blue in the face trying to get it right and you never can. Set it with the trailing edge slightly to starboard. If you adjust it a bunch, the steering wheel can just about yank right out of your hand with varying trim angles.

What you have is a simple basic steering system. There are non-feedback helms that really go a long way to minimize the effect. Depending on what brand system you are using, you can replace that basic helm with the NFB helm and keep your cable. Hydrauylic steering does even better, but I wouldn't spend that kind of money on anything smaller than a 150 on a hi-perf boat.
