steering problems

I purchased a 1986 sea ray pachanga last fall just got it into the water yesterday. ran perfect so far problem iam having at slow no wake speeds the bow will not stay straight, keeps wanting to go left or right, you reall have to fight the steering wheel to keep the bow pointed straight, at higher speeds not even up on plain its o.k. on plain its great. any suggestions i should look for or do thanks in advance ED

Get used to it......

it's normal ;)

no kidding!


You will get used to it and use very smooth small movements of the wheel

Its very normal, its the delay from steering to the correction, it can be a full minute or two, react in very small steering moments and give it time to take effect.

Try to just hold the wheel straight and fight the urge to move it. You will see the boat wander back and forth port to starboard with no input or fighting it. I use that disease to help me locate Walleye, a nice zig zag pattern. Most people just notice the wander when leaving the no wake zones at launches.
