1993 25hp mercury electric start.
I moved the steering friction lever all the way to the rh side with respect to the boat and I'm not getting a real tight steering. Is there something there that could be worn out?

I have a 1994 25hp. Mine does not have very tight steering either. When trolling I have to keep my hand on the tiller or it will swing around. I too wondered if there was something worn out. I think when it was new it probably was tighter. The lever has little effect on mine and moves on its own.

there is a little plastic button that applies the friction. that does wear and can be replaced

Push the friction control level (#12) all the way to the right, then tighten nut #13 until it's slightly tighter than you'd like it. Move the lever back until you're happy with the friction...

I tightened that nut about 20 degrees and it worked perfect. I guess it was just loose. Thanks
