Steering Cables

I have a light green "rack" on my 20' center console boat. The cable had broken out of it, so I am looking to fix/replace it.
I have read up on Teleflex cables and how to measure for new ones, but would like a second opinion. I am measuring the cables in place, not removed, because running them will be hard to do. (I had trouble fishing my transducer line last season, so am expectiong a fight!)

Anyone know who manufactures the cable with the light green rack?
I have found no numbers or markings to identify manufacturere or lenght?

Should I continue to use a "rack" system, or is there something better?

Re: Steering Cables

Rack,+ Pinion, or Rotary,.. I think All of them are build by Teleflex Now..........

Which you Choose is determined by the amount of Space you have behind the dash..........

Every Cable I've Ever Seen had the length written on the outer casing, within 5' of 1 end or the other............

If you want to spend a few coins,+ have the Best,........... Go Hydraulic.............. ;)

Re: Steering Cables

Thanks for the tip! I'll look again.

I have lots of room under the console, the only concern might be length of rack?

Hydraulic, hmmmmmm!
Will have to look into it.

Re: Steering Cables

Should I go with another type, instead of rack if room is avaialble?

I looked into hydraulic, a little too pricy for me!

Re: Steering Cables

Racks take the Most Width........

Rotaries need space above,+ Below center........

You've Got a Rack,........ It Fits.........
It's Always Easier to replace with the Same Part.........
No Teleflex is not the only game in town. I used all Uflex stuff. Works just as well as the Teleflex and is a wee bit cheaper me likes cheaper. :) on the other hand Teleflex is made in the USA and I think their site and instructions might be better than what I got.

However who reads instructions. Thats why everything was arsbackwards. :D Fixed now.

Re: Steering Cables

I like the Teleflex brand products because they seem to make everything backward compatable. Old helm? Need new cable? They have an adapter to put newest cables on old helms. I like that sort of design planning and support of past products.

Re: Steering Cables

What I like about them is,......

If a New Cable is $100.00.......
A Complete New Steering System, Helm Included, will be $110.00........

The pricing is Soo Close,... It's hardly Worth the effort to change Just the Cable.......
Which I see as a Plus,... 'Cause the helm is Probably Over due as Well.......
