steering cable?

I have an old boat from the mid 80's. It has rack and pinion steering. I want to remove cable to try to get some oil into it. There is not enough room to remove it from the tilt tube, due to the side of boat and I do not want to remove the engine. Does anyone know if the cable can be removed from the rack? It looks like a solid unit with the cable fixed. Is it possible to get the cable out of and back into the rack? Thanks.

no way to lube a steering cable. usually the inner sheath wears thru and the cable starts to rust in place.

just buy a new cable. $150 well spent

Buy an entire helm with cable. You can often get a really got price that way.
$160-$200
And you will be certain to get the correct cable.

You're gonna have to remove the motor either way.
