Steering cable too long?

When I take a full left turn, the steering link arm from my motor has damaged the transom with a small hole where it is contacting the hull. Is there an adjustment to prevent this arm from penetrating/rubbing the hull (i.e. shorten the steering cable)? Will this limit my turning radius excessively?

Jjeter,<br /> You did not mention what type of outboard you have? There may be another bolt hole on the steering arm coming off the motor.Try mounting the steering link arm on the next hole out nearest the front of the motor.Check your steering afterwards to see if the turn radius is still enough. :) Steering that is sloppy or has excessive play could be caused by a cable that is too long....

If your steering cable is held on by a external clamp on the tube you might be able to loosen and move the cable and tube to give you the needed clarence.
