Steering cable stuck?

Hello, I am trying to replace my steering cable on a 1993 alpha one gen II. I've loosened the nut and unhooked the rack from under the steering wheel, I've also removed the pin from the yoke that attaches to the lower unit. I can pull the cable out about 6 inches but then it stops and won't go any more. I figured my next step was to remove the tube with the cable and try to remove it from outside the boat. See photos below. I removed the nut that holds the adapter to the valve assembly. I assume that the adapter should pull off the valve assembly. It also seems to be stuck on there. I might have to use a puller to get it loose from the bolt sticking out of the valve assembly. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I assume that the cable end is corroded, keeping it from being pulled from the tube.

The adapter doesn't need to be removed
There is corrosion inside the tube and the reason the cable won't come out

Push it back in and spray with something like rust buster

Spray the steering rod and wipe it off until it is clean. If someone banged on the end of the steering rod, it could be mushroomed. That would need filing or sanding to get it small enough to pass thru the tube.

Got it out. Just used a little liquid wrench and a little more "oomph". Cable is frozen up tighter than a nun's you-know-what. Can't wait to see how she steers with a new one installed. The slider on the end of the cable is what threw me off. I wasn't sure how the whole thing was assembled.

New steering cables are alot like new socks, Amazing. Price is pretty low, not sure why anyone tries to save old cables.
