I have a 86 Glaxay bowrider with manual steering. During the winter my steering cable locks up and will usually losen up in the summer. Well it is locked up now and we took the cable out and it is stiff in some places. Wondering if I should go buy a new one or can they usually be fixed it doesnt have a grease fitting on the cable.

Re: Steering Cable Problems

steering cables use steel wire to keep them rigid, and they rust over time. if it binds then replace it.

I was on a similar situation and the cable no longer is available. I managed to fix it by submerging it on mineral spirit for 24 hrs and then blow air on it. I posted a tread on how to do it

I wouldn't risk it. Replace it.
