Steering cable - 73 Crestliner with OMC 225hp i/o - 19.5'

I need to replace the steering cable for my Crestliner crusader which is 19.5' in length but can't find what length of cable I need. Most parts dealer diagrams don't clarify. Anyone have any ideas how to confirm length without taking out the old cable first?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I have the old Tru-course steering cable/system. Anyone replace it with something else? does the teleflex work?

I have a '72 with the "through transom" steering (arm that pokes out to the outdrive). The cable on mine let go last year, and I switched this year over to a Teleflex system. I know Teleflex is good stuff, I just don't like the way that it works on my boat. I don't think I get quite the steering range out of it, and I don't think it's as smooth.

I know how Tru Course is supposed to work, and if you can find a good Tru Course cable (bunch of 'em on Ebay) I'd say stick with it. I'm probably going to look for a replacement OMC cable and get back closer to original next year.
