I did a re-power last year. I have the VP service manual, but it doesn't mention the servo pump fluid. My steering doesn't perform as well as it did prior to the re-power. I don't remember and didn't pay attention to what was in it before. I took the oil cooler off and pressure tested it and it's in great shape. I must have found somewhere that said to put 10W-30 in it because that's what I did, but the info I have been able to find while trying to troubleshoot says to use ATF. Can anyone confirm that for me? The drive is a SP-A

Ayuh,... I don't think those systems really care what oils in 'em, so long as it's clean,...

ATF works,...
PSF works,...
Jack oil/ Hyd. oil works,...
'n yes, motor oil works too,...

For trouble shootin' steerin' issues, at place to look is the end of the cable, through the aluminum tube, at the transom,...
They'll corrode together, inside the tube,...

Hey, thanks Bondo. I'll dig into that and check and lube.

While I have the hoses and all off, what's the best way to test the pump out to make sure it's working?
