Got a 06 Tahoe Q6. I find that the steering has about 2inchs of play on either side, I was wondering if there was any adjusment to tighten it up ?

Only adjustment there is, is at the steering ram and that is only if the cable nut has loosened up. If everything is tight may need a new cable and helm, but 2 inches isn't that bad, mine moves that much when going slow. Once on plane don't notice it much

The ram is at the rear connected to the lower unit ?

looking from inside the boat, does the steering arm move with the drive.
Yes = steering cable/helm issue
No = drive issue

Need a little more description here.... is the play strictly at the steering wheel (problem at the helm), or is the steering cable doing its job, and the "play" is at the drive connection itself, as discussed in other replies).
If at the helm, would need to know the type of mechanism. When I had steering play at the helm, it was due to a loose U-joint connection in the adjustable steering wheel. Finally fell apart on the lake and locked up the steering! That was a fun one to fix on the lake. Thankfully had just the right types of basic tools to fix it tight and my slop was gone, too!

Its not at the helm, its at the back. I got my wife to move the wheel while I was looking
