I have and 11'6" boston whaler with a older 25hp evinrude, it had a tiller steering system on it. I'm trying to update it to a cable type steering and need suggestions on how to attach it to the engine, or if there is a complete kit that i can buy that has ALL the parts needed for this job.

"Please help" LOL

KRK,

You will probably need to use a transom mount steering system. I do not believe your 25 has a tilt tube.

West Marine offers these systems. Look for the one that attaches the cable end (near motor) to the transom and the cable end (the one that moves in and out) attaches to the motor.

www.westmarine.com

Howdy KRK.

You are at 250% of the 10 rated hp for your boat, but I guess you know that already.

If you install a BW steering box and either pulley or mechanical steering you will still be overpowered. The rating with remote steering is 20hp.

Check the thread on BUI, Negligent Operation. Overpowering is willful negligence and could cost you a ton, even without liability issues.

Trade your engine for a 15 or 20 and you can easily convert to mechanical or pulley steering and be both safe and legal.

Good luck. :)
