I notice at some boat launches the speed limit is at steerage speed. What is considered steerage speed?

Re: Steerage speed

The minimum speed at which your boat will respond to changes in the steering. For most boats, this is about the same as "idle" or "no wake" speed.

Correct. <br />Around here, the signs and bouys read "SLOW NO WAKE"<br /><br />Which in the boating regulations is defined as " the slowest speed at which steering control can be maintained".<br /><br />Your boat may or may not be making a wake at this point, depending on the wind and current, but try explaining that to a local cop yahoo that is trying to generate revenue to impress the town board.
