1988 OMC 5.0 L I had an overheat problem last time out. The thermostat came out of the neck causing low or no water flow to 1 side of manifold.Burned up the exhaust flapper .Replaced flapper and thermostat. When i put on ears steam is coming out of pvc hoses. so much so that its rusting my carb plates.I can also see it collecting and dripping off spark arrestor.Runs at below 160 on ears. Oil on dipstick is not milky.Oil does not seem to be heating up engine at 160 oil not realy hot to touch.seems to run fine.where do i go from here ? have thought of changing oil and filter to start. any ideas?

Re: Steam in crankcase

Do a compression test.
Check plugs for water.
Then check the risers for leaking into the cylinders.
Sounds like a cracked riser/manifold?
Possible cracked head? Or head gasket?

Just cleaned out risers soaked in evaporust and then rodded.replaced gaskets

Sounds like you may have warped the heads and have a head gasket issue. I would do a cooling system pressure test at this point.

Fired her up on the ears no sign of water in oil ran about 15 mins.
Think maybe water got in thru exhaust after flapper burnt being as compression is in tolerance
how do i do a cooling system pressure test is there a sticky ?
