Re: stealing bearing buddy

i hate hearing things like this. but they are hard to make theft proof.a good hammer will get them off no matter what you do to hold them on. remember you dont want to do anything perminent because you do have to service the bearings from time to time.but you might want to try some lock tight.i dont know how good that will work on a pressed fitting though.no matter what you do if some 1 wants somthing bad enough it will be gone.

You can use some JB Weld. I had to use it on a hub were it kept coming off. Not the best idea in the world but it should work.

Good luck

It must have benn one determined SOB!

I had to practically pound mine on with a sledge hammer, to say the least about taking them off!

Don't know what you can do to protect them.

A psychotic rotweiler?

H.

FLASHBACK There is nothing you can do to prevent theft. If you catch him and prosecute him he will be back on the street before you do. I deal with this every day and it gets very frustrating. :(

Drill and tap a hole in one side of the bearing buddy and center hub. Locktight an allen head screw into it and it will never come off. That or paint them bright pink.

The more you do to prevent someone from stealing anything, the more damage they will do to everything else while they are trying to get them. I don't think there is any way to win. It's like they say, locks are made to keep out the honest man.

Why does someone come into our coffee room at work form time to time and steal all the creamer? Why do people steal the salt and pepper shakers and the Tabasco bottle out of the cafeteria?

I guess anything you steal is something you don't have to buy.

Re: stealing bearing buddy

its amazing what people will steal! The yard where we keep our boat has 12 foot walls with razor wire and video cameras and upon our return from havasu someone had swiped 2 of our 4 wheel chalks! made from 2x4s! how cheap can you get!

Some people aint got no couth!

I like Kevin's idea. Drill and tap the hub and screw in allen head setscrews, then pound solder into the holes in the screws so they can't steal them even if they have allen wrenches.

That might not make you happy when it is time to repack your bearings. Maybe forget the solder.

Good luck. :)

I appriciate all the good ideas folks, installing a set screw may be the answer. that way the thief will move on to the next trailer that doesn't have the set screws........

See if you can mark them in some way that only you can tell, then go hunt the SOB down.... They probably keep their boat there also...

I had an A$$ steal my neighbors bike one night..... About a month later the idiot who stole it was riding down our street on it... Stupid F****... Needless to say my neighbor was out side and caught the idiot......

Tallman
