Hi I have a question about the stator on a merc 402

The two wires that go into the stator, one of them is a little frayed it is working as it is supposed to but for peace of mind while out on the sea I would like to replace these.

Took the stator off seems like a sealed unit, can I replace the two wires that go into the unit?

thanks

Definitely don't want those to short against anything and blow anything

Hi

What I was wondering is that the unit seems to be sealed! Rubber all round the unit. The wire is craked near the edge, how is the stator opened?

Thanks

Re: Stator wiring... replacing both wires

due to heavy oxidation/corrosion in this case I would just insulate wires as best as possible,,wires r so bad don t try to solder new ones on unless u have a section of good clean copper,,insulate,,check resistance on wires AND stator circuit and then re-install and check for a/c voltage between 2 yellow wires,,when running,BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO RUN WITHOUT FLYWHEEL COVER ON,,,IT WILL RIP UR HANDS UP,,if a/c voltage is up to specs run it,,if not of course u need a new one

Their not meant to be opened , its a sealed unit.
