I TESTED MY STATOR. I AM SHOWING AN OUTPUT OF APPROX 20-3O VOLTS MAX OUTPUT WHILE SPINNING OVER. IS IT POSSIBLE FOR STATORS TO GO BAD AND PUT OUT THIS VOLTAGE? BOOK SAYS SHOULD BE AROUND 200 VOLTS BETWEEN THE GREEN/WHITE AND WHITE/GREEN WIRES.

Re: STATOR VOLTAGE TEST

I am no expert here but I believe in order to do this test you need to be using a DVA. If you are not using a DVA your voltage readings may be in error. I hope someone else here with the electronic background in outboards chimes in. Good luck

Re: STATOR VOLTAGE TEST

hello
what eurolarve says.
what type meter are you using to test the output?
and is the system loaded or unloaded ?

Re: STATOR VOLTAGE TEST

I HAVE A METER WITH A DVA ADAPTER BUT THE ADAPTER APPEARS TO BE BAD. IM GETTING THE SAME READING WITH AND WITHOUT THE ADAPTER. THE TEST IS BEING DONE UNLOADED WITH THE STATOR LEADS.I AM GETTING APPROX 25 VOLTS WHILE SPINNING THE MOTOR OVER AT THE METER. NOT MUCH VOLTAGE.I AM TESTING BETWEEN THE GREEN/WHITE AND WHITE/GREEN WIRES.

Re: STATOR VOLTAGE TEST

hello
try to test your DVA on a known good engine. if you have any other motors its simple. just test the coil primary side with the meter. 25 volts on the stator output is not enogh. much below 60 and the coil will not work. it is possible to have a stator test good with an ohm meter and not have a correct output.
but as you seem to not trust your DVA adapter then try to test it on a known good system. omc, yam, merc, nissan, tohatsu most all late model stuff runs a coil. test your meter on the primary tower. you should see something 100-200 volts.

Re: STATOR VOLTAGE TEST

THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLIES. I GOT IT RUNNING. REPLACED THE STATOR AND IT RUNS GREAT. AFTER GETTING A NEW DVA ADAPTER AND CONFIRMING THE STATOR WAS INDEED BAD. I HOPE THIS ONE LASTS LONGER. THIS IS THE THIRD ONE IS ABOUT 200 HRS OF USE.
