I got a quick question about a stator replacement. I recently had a piston melt itself, and Im in the middle of a complete rebuild. Everything brand new. I got the engine bored .020 over, in a 1989 johnson 175 crossflow big bore. I want a new stator, and Im wondering if I have to replace the trigger as well, or if there is someway to test it. Do they have to be replaced as a set. I'll probably get one anyway, but I'm just wondering. I have a post on here from last december about a melted or burned up piston with pictures on it.

I wouldn't replace it ,if its good.

The tests are in the manual .

As far as replace as a set.

I believe , I've read, that its a good idea to .

I've allways , bought them used, as a set .

Good-Luck,

KYHunter :)

Re: Stator/Trigger Replacement

The piston did not "melt itself". Something caused it to "melt". The damaged piston is a result - not a cause. Find and correct the cause.
