I was going out and put boat in water she started up then died ...thought she was cold but then nothing engine cranked but no fire I pulled plugs and no spark when I took it home and started researching I disconnected stop switch on back of key sitch(black and yellow wire) still no spark then tested stator I read I should have 450-550ohms on brown to brown/yellow and same on orange to orange and black at connector but I don't even have 1 ohm it reads .841 could this go bad just like that should I take it off and test before I buy new one its alittle pricey or does that test proven its bad? thanks any help is appreciated..

2 cylinder or 3 cylinder? Rope start, or electric start?

Go to cdielectronics.com and look up their trouble shooting procedures. Very helpful.

850+- 100 ohms between the 2 brown wires. 400+-40 ohms between the 2 orange wires.

If the ohms check ok, then check for short to ground, then voltage output on the charge coil, 2 brown wires. 150 volts.

orange to orange digital multi meter would jump to 250.ohm then 377.ohm then to .4ohm should it maintain a consistent reading? only reads when first touched to wires .brown to brown does not even register 1.ohm it reads .457ohms so I take it my stator is bad maybe I will remove from engine and test it on work bench

I would suspect the meter, do not use auto range setting

Re: stator testing on 1998 50hp johnson

Thanks for the help but I'm going to have to pull flywheel off tomorrow think something is broke under there because when im testing resistance on orange and brown wires I still get a bouncing reading even with a meter that's not auto range but is digital when I spin fly wheel by hand with test probes in connector it will beep showing continuity and readings all over the place any suggestions?also when I test white to blue on the other connector and white to green it shows 27 ohms within spec of15-50ohms not sure what they do but they are ok
