The aforementioned Merc outboard (70ish 700 3cyl) is has thrown me a curve so I am looking for advice. I got three stators. The original with peeling insulation on the rectifier wires and no ground wire, call this one A. Call B last years used replacement with a ground wire. C is this year's replacement that i happen to know the number on 398-5704A4, used of course. Doing the resistance test on A and I get specs, off the red lead 150ohm, blue lead around 5.2kohm. Don't really want to use this one because of the insulation issue. Stator B tested fine off the red lead. The blue lead measured around 8Mohm when I first tested but now its 0L. I get this, open circuit. Its bad. Here's the root of my question. Stator C tests fine off the red but shows a similar reading of 8Mohm on the blue. It runs the machine. Spec is like 5K. How come this works and is this just the start to the end of this stator much like the demise of B? I know the wise thing would be give up and get a new replacement but... well, I'm just stubborn i suppose...
