Took my Sugar Sand 2000 boat with a 175hp Mercury jet in to have it looked at because of it's no idle condition. The marina said the #6 cylinder had no spark at low idle and that it needs a new stator. They say it will cost $490 for the part and installation....Is this a fair price?...thanks

Re: Stator price

sounds like alot to me....
then again we do all of our own repairs......

well considering its about $300 for a brand new distributor.....I would say it is expensive OUCH $490? shop around if possible!

just read that you are in Howell Mich, I bet theres 20 boat repair shops withiin 20 miles of you :)

Re: Stator price

Got the boat back and now #6 cylinder sparkplug fouls out, says the carb should be rebuilt. I now have $685 in this motor and it still does not run right. Before I took the boat in all the cylinders were working good, I just had no idle.

Re: Stator price

The no idle problem / fouling of #6 could indeed be a carb problem .

Re: Stator price

Update: found out that #5 & 6 cylinders have carbon fouled plugs, so I took #3 carb off and cleaned it, looked spotless to me but I cleaned it anyways.

I also did a compression check and came up with exactly 110 psi on all six cylinders. My tester is not the best one, so it might be off somewhat. I can't start the engine because the bendix is hung up, i'm tired so i'll take it off tomorrow.
And all this started with a no idle condition..

Re: Stator price

did the dealer check the intake and reed valves ? I am not familiar with the 175 v6 but the basics still apply . Let me do some research and I will post up what I can
