i removed the flywheel on a 1986 15 hp force , the stator plate has a little play in it (less than an 1/8 th of an inch . but it does move up and down ,is this plate supposed to have any play in it or is it supposed to have no vertical play ??? Also the cavitation plate is level with the bottom of the boat , is this shaft to short or is that correct .

Re: stator plate

I've never worked on your motor, but....
Hate to see no answers......
The stator is moveable, so it will have some up and down play. Just be sure all the bolts are tight. The cavitation plate should be level (or there abouts) with the bottom of the boat.

Good luck!

Re: stator plate

After i rebuild my 35Hp Evinrude 1983 i noticed it had a low clicking sound at iddle.

It appeared to be the stator plate that was mowing - it is visible when i cranck slowly by pulling rope. Do the nylon washer below the plates get worn - i can´t se the magnets have touched coils. It seems as the plate moves when the magnets passes the coilanchors. Same problem as the force. Guess it will get more and more worn with this movement. What am i supposed to do about it ?

Re: stator plate

Are you sure its moving up and down, or is it rotating slightly due to bad linkages. Have a look at idle. Hold on to the linkage and see if it affects it. Is it possible the linkage is loose at either end?(bushing missing, worn out, etc?)

Re: stator plate

It is moving up and down, up in one side and same time down at the other. Movement is between 1/16" and 1/32"

Your can rock it with your fingers when you hold around flywheel in both sides.

Re: stator plate

I did check the linckages when i rebuild, and they were fine, still are. I lubricate everything every year.

The stator turns on a disk surrounded by a nylon washerlike thing. Do these get worn ?

Re: stator plate

Pull the flywheel and the stator off and see whats worn. There has to shims or bushings available. Best to see the dealer for a parts breakdown. There is bugger all in the manual.

Sorry I'm not much help... :(
