I have a Inline 6 cyl. 1984 90 hp merc. Have no spark at any of the plugs. Pulled flywheel and visualy inspected stator and trigger assembaly. All looks good, except for a little corrosion on the 2 leads from the stator going to the rectifier.

Did ohm meter test on stator per the manual. There was no reading when the test leads were connected between the red and blue leads.(manual says it should read between 5,400-6,200 ohms) When I connected the leads between the red lead and engine ground then reading is 145 ohms, which is within the range givin in the manual.

What I was wonder was, if this is normal readings when a stator fails? I would like some input before buying a new stator.
Also, there is a used boatyard nearby. What are your opinions on buying a used stator? Money is tight and would like to save where I can.

1 more thing, then I promise I will stop typing...does the trigger assemmbly have the same life span as the stator??? Should I replace it when replacing the stator? It passed the ohm test per the manual.

Thank you for any input..

Newbie-
Bobby Powell
