OK guys, I have a 1988 90hp 3 cylinder Mercury outboard, serial number 0B302485. I just installed the Radio Shack rectifier, my charging system is a 9amp. Has anyone ever heard of the blue and red wire connected to the switchbox from the stator having intermittent resistance readings? Yesterday I had continuity between the two wires disconnected from the switchbox and today the resistance readings are dead on with what the manual says? I checked them connected to the switchbox and I checked them disconnected from the switchbox, I get the manual listed resistance readings. Also, on the radio shack rectifier, how does one tell which terminal the positive battery connection is and which is the ground connection? The two AC(yellow stator wires) are labelled ok. Please advise. Hope I did not confuse anyone with my babbling.

The red and blue are checked from each wire to ground. Are you measuring the wires to each other? If you are getting continuity one day then not, sounds like something is shorting and stator should be replaced.
